Closing Week Oh Yea

Happy Belated Earth Day!

My closing week of the 2017/ 2018 winter season in the high country of Colorado was awesome. My last week was filled with a little bit of everything. From more of the fresh stuff (a late April blizzard happening now), to a failed attempt at a 14’er, fly fishing for the first time on the Frying Pan to boot, to teaching another person how to ski. What a week! Winter ended way to fast; well for me anyway. I want to thank my buddy Luis. Sorry your last run for 2018 was in a sled. Shout out to the Beaver Creek Ski Patrol. And no, I have no regrets. Enjoy the pics. CMM

Beaver Creek Resort

Some freshie holding up in the creek. But it’s certainly not frozen.

Kinda reminds me of winter . . .

Looking straight up the main face.

Wow, what once was, is now just about over.

Trees ripe for a little play.

Some folk enjoying the last days of winter.

Larkspur Bowl.

Anyone want to run some gates? Just kidding, they pulled them for the season. All done.

A little freshie makes an appearance.

Yup. #LINESKISYO

Are you kidding me? It’s still coming down.

AWESOME!!!! Pow face to end the day.

Carbondale, CO

Mt. Sopris becoming the focus.

Clouds really adding dimension to the horizon.

Mt. Sopris

Deer here, everywhere.

WOW

This colossal peek is still covered with the white stuff.

No snow up here on this side.

I see you guys hiding. Here, there and everywhere.

Right in the backyard. Dude what are you growing back there?

Morning

Morning to you guys as well

Now that’s close. What up fellas?

And then I head down to…

Out in the Valley on the Frying Pan looking back at the mountains.

Whoa there boy…it’s catch and release in these parts.

Spotted brown trout; another beauty.

He’s got the look . . .

I head out of the the Front Range to grab my buddy, Luis.

I actually think it topped out at 81 degrees.

Here we are at the top of the Continental Divide.

Loveland . . . Lovely isn’t it?

Loveland Ski Area and the Eisenhower tunnel straight ahead.

I-70 and going in-out of the Eisenhower tunnel.

Lift at Loveland Ski Resort.

Looking across the continental divide.

Looks to be still really good from a distance.

Cornice drops for the brave few.

Some side and back country terrain. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO.

The Ten Mile Mountain Range.

Beaver Creek Ski Resort.

Avon, CO

LUIS goes skiing for the first time.

Well you look like you have done this before.

Yup, you will need the skis my man.

Up and on em. Looking good.

Jerry hitting the magic carpet.

Your turn bro.

I see that smile. . ..just wait.

Looks a little slushy on the bunnies my man.

Peace.

Eyes up hommie. The cameras over here.

Very good with the parallel skis.

Not as easy at it looks; tiring isn’t it.

Wow you made it all the way up there? Day 1, UNREAL.

Is that a dog between you legs bro?

I really am going to miss these views when I have to move my office.

Until then . . .just another amazing view from my office.

After a week of much thought and planning, I decided to attempt my first 14’er. I have been thinking about this day for a long time now.

The two gifts I opened this morning, my eyes, let me see this. I believe, do you?

QUANDARY MOUNTAIN.

The ridge-line awaits our arrival.

And so does this guy…clever like a fox, so they say.

We got this. Let’s roll.

We begin at the McCullough Gulch Rd trailhead.

Away we go . . .

Into the forest . . .

After a short .7 trek, we finally make it to the trailhead.

Any idea what you are getting yourself into bro?  I doubt it, or your would not have said yes!

READ THE SIGN. IT SAYS IT ALL.

Opting for the headband as it starts to get hot when you are trecking along.

So pretty.

What happened to the smile? You are not tired already are you? We’re not even out of the woods yet.

These views don’t suck.

Just stay on the trail . . .I read the sign. Did you?

You got this . . . .You can do it! I know you can!!

Leaving the trees and forest and heading up the exposed areas.

With the lack of oxygen at this level and steep incline, this area is exponentially harder than the first area of the hike.

Visibility begining to change by the second.

Flat light on the exposed ridge-line.

Icicles starting to form on Jerry’s bush, I mean beard,

And then our vis became even worse . . .

Until we were litarally blinded by the light.

I got this . . .

Safety first . . .Know when to turn around and head down. It’s always best to live another day.

Looking out across at the West Ridge.

PEACE OUT DUDE . . . I’M OUTTA HERE. YOU ARE CRAZY CMM MAN!!!

And we begin the journey back down.

Another day living out my dreams. You are never to old. Dream the impossible.

No worries bro. Let’s get outta here safe. There’s always tomorrow.

But first we have to get below tree line level.

Cause I can’t see s%$t. And yes it is a little dangerous up here, now let’s get down.

Finally below tree line, visibility re-appears and we find our way out of this hike. Good attempt but not to be had this go round. I tried my best and Luis did his best- but today that wasn’t good enough.

BEAVER CREEK GOLF COURSE

Bone Dry

The creek is really moving.

Looks just about time. . . green and lush.

Hills of Avon barren of any snow.

The last of the the last at The Beav.

Ski the morning, play 9 holes in the afternoon.

Careful of the sand.

Last Day for the season is tomorrow.

Closing Day 2018 – April 15th

Nice day

Alright, alright, alright.

You like the new look

Good views . . .

Good times.

Thank you Beaver Creek Resort.

Hard not to love this place.

What up man?

Did I mention that I am gonna miss these views.

And these . . .

Down the hill he goes . . .

Hey there J.W, looking good as always.

Party on the deck. Love it.

Yo, yo, yo

That look before you don’t know you are just about to hurt yourself.

Beaver Creek Ski Patrol taking care of business.

The Pro’s handling the situation.

Everything will be ok. I promise, no I don’t know how much this ride costs but it will be worth it!

Feedback

Reader feedback, comments and emojis were again strong. Thank you. We appreciate anything we get. Without your great content, I would have much more work to keep you entertained. Keep up the good work.

Again, here are some of the amazing comments we received this week…

You went to some kick ass ski resorts this year

I’m lucky I didn’t get my ass kicked by some ski resorts this year. I was really grateful and very lucky for the run I had. Each resort has it’s own thing going on. I encourage you to check them out for yourself.

Pictures are great but doesn’t look like snow country.

The snow melts ,what can I say. But the rivers, they be flowin. Which I guess is why I received this:

More fun pics! 2018! I may be getting the pass w   . . . . n  . .. (the stone) for next season. Im trin to start fishin on tues. Maybe a fishin blog? U r great inspiration. Be well . .

Thank you. Dream it. Live it. Do it. Start today.  Fishing blog?  You never know. Anything is possible right? You should start one, I would love to read it.  This guy was certainly impressed:

I still can’t believe you on the Frying Pan today and it’s 60 degrees and sunny

Me either, but I certainly wasn’t gonna take a powder day to go fishing.

And I am pretty sure we have received this many a time:

You got balls, bro. I give you that for sure

I keep telling you man . . .It’s not what you have and don’t have. It’s how you live your life and who you share your love with. Remember that. I get feedback like this from time to time:

Trying to plot my escape . . .back on the mountain this weekend. Stoked for that!

Escape from what? You can be and do anything you want in this world. But you can’t and do everything. Live your dreams not someone else’s.

2017/2018 Winter is officially in the books. As one reader put it

Another season over

COMMENTS

It is sad to say it but most resorts in the US are now closed.  There are a select few resorts whose chairs are still spinning. If you can find em, ride em.  Anyway, the end of the 2017/2018 resort winter season is here. Get outside and you can see that spring has arrived. #OPTOUTSIDE

Jackson, WY & back

Now, normally I don’t start with reader comments but after I posted “The Last Hoorah” I received this:

I must say I am a bit saddened by this

So I guess a minimal explanation is due:

It’s not over man. The Last Hoorah was just a title of a post. We are not ending this blog. I am not and did not retire. The Thrill of the Mountain awaits you-with or without snow.

And then I did this:

A week ago – this was a consensus

MeBlue Sky or Jackson Hole? On the move this week…

Reader 1:  Jackson Hole for sure for all the vertical it offers! You get what you pay for                          though.

ME:            Thank you. I get it, who doesn’t like a big drop. It’s a big world out there and                          vert is not everything. I don’t want to die.

Reader 2: We had fun at Jackson hole!                                                                                            ME:             I can have fun anywhere. I put the u in fun.

Reader 3: Jackson hole has good late pow                                                                                      ME:            Excellent point. I can only argue if they don’t get pow this week.

Reader 4: Blue sky Can’t go wrong either way                                                                              ME:            Dude my bad . . it’s Big Sky but I got it.

Reader 5: I’ve been to Jackson never Blue Sky. I would probably choose Jackson if                                 you’ve never been, very extreme                                                                             ME:          Hmm, I’m starting to notice a theme here. . . all the vert, very extreme

Reader 6:   Never skied blue ski, but Jackson is super cool                                                        ME:              It’s Big Sky I get it . . .the sky must be huge, it’s probably not always blue.

Reader 7:  Jhole? Why not bofum Easy choice when I don’t have to finance it. 🤪                  ME:            I like your style. Wish that was in the plans. Next time.

Reader 8: Both!! But if forcd. Jhole                                                                                                  ME:            Come on peeps, it’s A or B you can’t have both!!!! It’s a question.

Reader 9: Go to Jackson hole. Drop into corbets couloir !                                                            ME:             If the conditions allow maybe. But not everyday is the day. Steep, big vert, don’t want to die. Got it?

Reader 10: Neither. Haven’t you been skiing long enough. Come home. 🙂                      ME:               I will be home soon. I can’t wait, until then there’s another storm.

Bozemon, Montana and Blue Sky I owe you one. I look forward to it next time. That being written, when you have the best followers in the world you listen to what they say.

Knowing that the season is coming to a fast end, I just couldn’t grin and bare the 60 degree temps in the high country of Colorado any longer. I’ve decided to head to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Bye Bye Colorado

Beautiful sunrise over Gypsum, CO.

Bone dry out here.

Table tops still hold the last of the snow.

Jackson here we come.

Jackson, WY

Bam…that’s what I’m talking about.

I like what I’m seeing

National Elk Refuge is here.

So that’s what snow covered peaks look like. I was beginning to forget.

And of course, A river runs through it…

Fly fishing anyone

Yaaaasss!

Bait fisherman are not big here, flies are how it’s done in this place.

Views from right outside Teton Village.

One of a kind, for sure.

Do not take this safety message lightly.

The resort fully covered in the white stuff.

After visually checking out the resort mid-day, I head over to Grand Teton National Park.

Grand Teton National Park

View of Jackson Hole Resort from afar.

The Tetons

Makes me want to get lost here. Actually, I think I am lost.

Views that never get old.

The Grand Teton

In search for wildlife, I find some moose.

So cool. These big game animals are amazing to view.

Couple of moose just moosing around. Ha ha.

Found two more …

Jerry just hanging around some moose.

Wyoming mountain deer …

There are thousands of these deer everywhere.

A little moose grazing…

Uh oh…a moose stampede. Not good.

They are gonna eat me…just kidding.

Just lovely

Couple of moose just hanging out.

I was told I may find some more of the big guys done here by the water.

Sun setting over the back of  Teton Village

Jackson Hole Resort

Ski day below

Tough visibility today.

Flat light.

Side country access all over. Remember never leave resort boundaries without the proper skills and training. You can die. Seriously. Don’t be a Jerry!

Plenty to ski but very hard to see.

Tough one today.

Nothing like catching some freshie.

Safety meeting? What’s the issue?

Oh, sh&t I can’t see anything.

Really flat light and tough visibility. One needs to be very careful skiing/riding in this light.

No, this is not the door steps to heaven. Yes, the light is blinding. Yes, this can be very dangerous.

Heading down the mountain some visibility greatly improves as well as some freshie still to be had.

Gondola #22…coming down I do believe?

Cliffs ahead…be extremely careful there.

Jerry pushing through a day of tough visibility.

Vis getting much better further down the mountain.

Rocks and natural kickers abound everywhere.

Now below the cloud cover visibility returns.

Great view of the WY topography.

Corbet’s Couloir

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. THIS IS FOR PROFESSIONALS AND IDIOTS SEEKING DEATH ONLY. REPEAT DO NOT ATTEMPT.

The real deal here…

This is a no fall zone. REPEAT THIS IS A NO FALL ZONE.

One Jerry trying his luck. You got this.

Checking for the false cornice. Very important, if you don’t want the shelf to break on you.

Into the abyss …

Steep and low vis; fun combo

Cliff wall on the main face.

Wow. That was some day out there. Extremely variable conditions, made for some challenges but fun times for sure!

Grand Targhee Resort

View from the base.

Another low light day.

Some freshie starting to come down.

Trees holding some of that white frosting from yesterday. Love it.

But the vis was minimal again today. Clouds lying right at the top of the lifts.

More back country gates. Serious stuff once you go through those gates. Are you prepared? Many decisions to make out there. Be trained, have a plan and a partner. And “IF YOU DON’T KNOW, YOU DON’T GO.” That simple really.  Don’t be stupid. It’s not worth your life.

Really starting to come down now.

Low lying clouds making me stay mid mountain and below.

Another good day out there but again low visibility making it very tough to see.

Grand Teton National Park

Back to Grand Teton National Park I head. I just couldn’t stay away. This place is awe-inspiring.

Still overcast and grey out.

Low lying clouds

What’s that I see in there?

Who you looking at? Bowwinkle is that you?

Clouds covering the Tetons.

Birds and ducks in the open fields.

Nothing like a big pile of …big piles all around.

Selfie – Jerry just checking himself out. Looking good bro, rockin that mountain look!

Natural gully formed by a massive slide many years ago.

Some red rock to mix it up.

Natural beauty; yup.

This really is a beautiful country. I really do love this place.

Colorful shrubs pushing through the snow melt.

Beautiful mallard just floating along.

The beautiful Wyoming landscape.

Sun trying to break through the clouds.

The deer here are everywhere…

Really…

Everywhere

The pics speak for themselves really.  Now, I understand what all of those earlier texts were about!  Jackson is definitely a special place!

Sick pics

Thank you. I try and make em healthy but sometimes they just come out filthy sick. And this time of the year we have to deal with this reality:

I was wondering when the snow was going to melt!!

It’s happening almost each and every day. The end of winter in the US is near. Time to put the winter gear away. Not ready yet?  You can always wait a few months, South America and New Zealand will be waiting your arrival.

SNOW CONDITIONS

Resorts are still open, well some are at least. Now is the time people, the end is near, like really really near. Closing day will be here before you know it. It’s really just days now. In one week most all of the US resorts will be closed. The end of the 2017/2018 resort winter season is in sight. Get out there and enjoy it. #OPTOUTSIDE #POWDER TO THE PEOPLE

The Last Hoorah

I am back on the road for the week. Hopefully, I have a chance to ride the cold smoke just once more. I’m yearning for the pow! Jackson and 14” they received on Sunday has me calling. I’m hoping they get a little more of the freshie while I’m around. Anyway, last week was another busy one. I was back in Colorado. I did a little alpine touring and some guiding in the later part of the week. Here’s my pics. Enjoy.

3/29 – Alpine Touring

Beaver Creek

Some days are just grey and gloomy.

Sunglasses needed – Jerry’s light is so bright.

Up the ridgeline I go.

Flat light

One in front of the other…over and over again. For those of you that do not know what alpine touring is – see the skies above – they have special things on the bottom called skins – they allow you to literally walk up the mountain (yes, it’s REALLY difficult sometimes and is definitely a good workout). Once at the top you get to reward yourself by taking off the skins, clicking into the skis, and skiing down! You should try it!

3/30 – Beaver Creek

I had a great day on the hill today. I want to thank Susan and Steve, their wonderful family and Jessica for a great day.

Little magic carpet to start our day.

Great smile girl.

I told you it was just like riding a bike.

Think you will try it again? I hope so!

Larkspur Mountain in the background.

Young lady the camera is up here.

Love it.

Did you really learn how to ski in just one day? Unreal!!!!

A day on the slopes with your girls; priceless

Great looking group.

Colorado Blue Bird Day.

BFF’s working the mountain.

3/31 – Beaver Creek

I want to thank Jeff, Keiko & Alex for a fun day on the slopes. Alex you are really starting to get good. Shoot for the stars bud. Your future is boundless.

Goggles on glasses; only on a Jerry.

Enjoyed skiing with this guy and his family. They can really get after it.

Can I call you ghost rider?

Colorado horizons

Mamma about to make that turn.

JT’s work in the background.

Now we see your face ghost rider.

Dry out there.

But where is everybody?

Beaver Creek Golf Course in the distance. I left my clubs at home.

Spring is here, for sure.

Love the smile.

Oh yes! It’s cookie time.

Here comes the silver platters of cookies….oh yea!

This made me laugh:

What, no mountain people newsletter this week?

Funny. We try to publish 2x a week, but sometimes we are also off.

I always enjoy this one

More spectacular pics

Thank you. When you take as many as I do your bound to get a few good ones. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

I smiled when I read this:

I have enjoyed looking at the beautiful winter scenery. Mind u I said looking.

Auntie, thank you. The Thrill of the Mountain awaits you; through my eyes and words or yours.

Appreciate this:

Loved “Happy Easter Happy Passover Happy Holidays
Closing day is near”

Thanks and I hope you had a nice holiday.

And yup we still get this:

Still living the dream

I wake up everyday just like you. Life is a dream. Dream the impossible.

Anyway, the snow will melt, what you think is a dream won’t feel like one to me in a few weeks with the daily temps in my hometown around 90 degrees.

This comment was certainly timely:

Very cool post. The snow had melted here. It will be next winter before there is more. Hope all is well.

Keep the faith man. You never know. And yes, things are well. Unfortunately I think I may be seeing some type of theme here …

And I’m in Mexico

Yup, yup. And I’m still chasing a fading dream. But I believe…

Soak up every last snowflake

I hope to see another one. But at the end of the day will it really matter. As one reader and friend sent this:

We chase a dream, at some point the dream becomes our destiny. The pursuit of something as pure as a fresh canvas that allows us to imprint our will upon it. We descend into an eternal white abyss, solitude is an illusion, chaos lingers at the edge of control. Our unique paths shared for a moment in time when synchronicity gives way to balance. I hope to see you on that trail my friend but if not I will wait for you at the bottom and we will tell stories on our way up.

Without friends and family to share this life with what are we left with?

Closing Day is near

I started Monday and Tuesday out in California finishing up an epic week of riding powder. Conditions are still really prime out in California. They should hold for at least a few more weeks. I am back in Colorado guiding this weekend and who knows where next weekend. If you have any interest, it’s never to late to get on board. Anyway…Here were my views from earlier in the week. I hope you enjoy.

3/26

Alpine Meadows

Wow and that’s just the parking lot view.

Blue bird with powder.

Is that the lake I see in the distance.

Steeps – I like what I see.

Lakeviews – they sure are nice.

And some frosted tress. Lions and tigers and bears. Oh my.

This place really does have some amazing views.

All available for the taking and we can certainly guide you through any of it!

Jerry checking himself out.

Jerry working the high alpine lines with exceptional views.

Here is my disclaimer…Experts only. Careful, trying to ski or ride above your ability can result in extreme risk of injury, even fatality. YOU CAN DIE, DO NOT TRY THIS.

Beautiful view of Alpine Meadows.

The trees that make up Alpine Meadows dot the resort with evergreens.

Some cliffs to the right and steeps in front.

And those evergreens again.

Post card pics. . . .

Available for sale ….buy 1 buy 3 buy 5 buy 20 …all original pics.

Ridge line

Make me think of summer.

Local guide, Craig. Parked next to this dude. Thanks for letting Jerry tag along for a bit. Shout Out to the Dolan Group.

Steeps & Bumps riding soft.

Using some lighting effects.

Yaasssss!!!!! I want to ski here.

Huck and send baby.

That fresh blanket still lingering on the evergreens.

I can take you here. We will have fun. It’s a great day in the neighborhood.

Jerry’s bright light always shining through.

This place is really awesome. Really. I had another amazing day at this place. Can’t recommend it enough if the conditions are prime. No frills kinda place, but amazing days to be had none the less.  Did you notice that there were only a few skiers in those shots, NICE!

Reader feedback, comments & pictures

Feedback

Reader feedback, comments and emojis were again strong this week. We received three pics, better than none I guess. Thank you. Much appreciate anything we get. Keep up the good work. Again, here are some of the amazing comments we received this week:

I enjoyed this one

Enjoying all the pictures. It is a beautiful country.

Thank you. I could not agree more. Get outside. Check it out. Stop and smell the roses. Which I guess somehow leads to this:

Still living the dream

I wake up everyday just like you. Life is a dream. Dream the impossible.

And this kinda sounded wierd to me

I pushed your blog

This is more what we hear around town:

“Loved” Thrill of the Mountain

This was funny regarding last posts title and content:

Glad you got dumped on.

and this gem with the obscene language

Call you The Dumper The Crapper . . .The Shitter

It snowed. Not sure where you got the other stuff from. Common bathroom humor. Anyway, we love it when we get this

Fun pictures. Pretty. Lots of snow.

The snow makes everything look better.

What up my man? Can’t believe you made it . . .can’t believe I missed you. Unreal.

I may be back on the road again next week. I’m hoping to catch one more dump before I call it a season. It has really been an amazing one so far and if nothing happens, oh well. But I believe!

A Dump Here, A Dump There, A Dump Everywhere

As the 2017/2018 US season quickly comes to an end, I still have some unfinished business. I am hoping to see a whole bunch of the cold white stuff before it’s all said and done. I’m back on the move this week in the search for powder! Nothing like a powder morning before I leave town. Pics from Monday at Beaver Creek. Enjoy!

POW HERE

Colorado sun shining through.

Frosted trees line the road up to the base.

Finally frosted trees return everywhere to The Beav.

Beautiful Colorado Day.

Blue sky and fresh pow, oh my.

Looking good with a fresh blanket.

Conditions once again are superb.

No crowds on a Monday.

Trees ripe for a little play.

Beaver Creek postcard pic.

Southern border of the steeps.

I got this…

Big Rock

It was good enough on Monday to ski in the nice stashes along the ski boundary – REMEMBER this is reserved for excellent, trained skiers only and oh, did I mention how fun it was!

Oh those glades and…

frosted trees.

Lions and Tiger and Bears, Oh my.

Get it before the sun melts its all.

See you soon! Closing day is near.

Tuesday

Northstar at Tahoe – I couldn’t help myself! I had to check out the CA dumping that I have been hearing about so I made the trip to CA/NV to check it out for myself.

POW THERE

Northstar gondola takes you from the village to the base.

Not many peeps out on this Tuesday morning.

Gray, overcast and flat light.

Jerry selfie. How u doin?

Fresh lines all around.

Bit firm and a little crusty in the glades.

Snow coming down.

Wet and heavy, fun nun the less.

The glades of Northstar.

Here …

And here

Check out my powder face! This day did not suck – powder everywhere!

Liked “powder everywhere”

I think I’m on to something.

Snowy and very wet out today.

The white fluffy stuff is dumping.

Nope that is not your eyes deceiving you – those are huge snowflakes!

Bit lighter now but still coming down.

Lots of fresh around.

I never get tired of frosty beard pics! See all that snow on me! It was as fun as it looks!

Snow starting to cover Jerry’s jacket.

Starting to dry out.

Wow what a day!

Friday

Heavenly Ski Area

After reporting receiving over 30 inches over the last 2 days, I am here to check it out…

Heavenly welcomes Jerry. Haha, I’m so funny.

Heavenly Tram.

Sun starting to rise over the mountain.

The fresh stuff is everywhere.

Straight away to the lift they come.

Heading in Powder Bowl.

Untouched here …

And here…

Pretty much everywhere.

The awesome glades and views of Heavenly.

Tree and lake views everywhere here.

Views for miles.

Bluebird day after 17 inches overnight. Unreal!

Heavenly postcards for sale. Want one?

Because the amazing views never get old.

Never.

Little pow pow face.

Deep pow and majestic lake views is what I saw today.

Heavenly – is this what heaven looks like?

Or is it more like this?

Wow. Take me to your leader.

Natural features everywhere today.

Super deep, super duper.

Not a bad view anywhere today.

Thank you. Wow. Another Heavenly Friday. Filthy sick. Deep, deep stuff here all around. If you don’t know how to ride the pow, stay on the groomers. This stuff will eat you up. It will take your skis, your poles and just about anything else. You won’t find it again until the snow melts. I’m not kidding, it’s that deep right now. Don’t believe me just ask the dozen or so skiers that lost a ski. It sucks. Been there, done that. 2 words: Powder chords Ride the pow or sink in it. That’s just how it is. This is the deep stuff.

Saturday

Homewood Mountain Resort.  I decided to give a local mountain resort a try today – tip from a local.  Go here.  They’ll be less people.  Turned out to be a good move.  The crowds weren’t so bad and the mountain was solid with all that fresh snow!

Homewood, CA

A Tahoe locals playground with no crowds.

Some clouds and spots of blue to start the day.

Nothing wrong with a little sunshine.

Clouds and flat light rolling in

Great lake coastline views.

Are those flurries coming down.

Take me there.

I think I can still see the lake.

Turn around and it’s dumping.

Oh yea.

Getting colder and a bit harder to see.

Totally flat light now.

And then came the dumpage.

YEESSS!!!

But where is everybody?

Trees covered with the white stuff.

Met this fellow powder hound out there.

Jerry here…

But not many other people.

There’s one

Mine all mine.

Fresh line after fresh line.

Nothing like a dumpage.

WINNER WINNER POW POW DREAMS TONIGHT.

Fresh lines getting filled right in. WOW

Dumpage. Fresh Pow Galore.

Amazing day out there today. I came here to avoid large resort weekend crowds. Score! I was doing laps all day. While the place is small and has a local homey feel, I did not wait in one lift line all day. Not one. This area scored significant feet of the fresh stuff this week and not one lift line. Amazing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Of course the icing on the cake was the eight inches of freshie the resort must have received during the day. Fresh soft lines and no lift lines. It just works, and works well. The lake views don’t suck either. Btw..Kirkwood posted on Instagram that their parking lot was 80% full at 10:15 am …how do you think the lift lines were? Just saying, I mean writing.  Guess I made the right decision!

Reader feedback, comments & pictures

Feedback

Reader feedback and comments, were again strong this week. Pics, we received none. I get it; when you publish just days apart you can not expect much. I know some peeps have not even read Thursday’s post. Thank you all anyway. Much appreciate anything we get. Keep up the good work. Again, here are some of the amazing comments we received this week:

Wow. Really great pictures. Makes me want to be there and experience it

We write this blog for the benefit of everyone. But really it’s just a selfish attempt to justify my life. Certainly seems that way when I get this…

Where’s Waldo skiing today?

Haha. That’s funny. Here, there, and everywhere.

We always appreciate this:

Awesome Post

And this readers assesment, I would agree with:

What you do deserves respect, it’s an incredible commitment.

With commitment comes sacrifice. It’s not easy. Looks can be very deceiving. Anyway, Jerry loves this:

So nice. Love the blog.

And can certainly relate to this:

I’m chasing $25 pars your’e chasing powder.

I’ve been there. It’s good to chase something. Powder-Preferreds – they both start with a P.  Ironically so does payday.

And this weeks gem just melts my heart.

what’s most gratifying is that I shared the ski season with so many others through your blog posts. The real Thrill of the Mountain is just that; you opened up your passion for this sport to create and highlight a fraternity not just of winter enthusiasts but of ‘friends.’ This blog has not just been a lesson in how to navigate time on the mountain but time in this life. Kudos!

Thank you. Life is too short and we are never promised tomorrow. Live a full life and have no regrets. Your time to make a difference is now. With love, encouragement and determination we can do anything.  Plus, I mean really, who doesn’t love beautiful pictures and encouragement to go do something they are passionate about!

To You

This post is dedicated to all of you. I’m grateful for life and everything I have. You all have helped make this season great. Seeing how much you also love the snow just melts my heart. This season’s not over just yet but it will be sooner than later. And while South America awaits my arrival, this one’s close to being in the books. Anyway, here’s to you!

Bellow are all user submitted photos from over the last 3 months. Amazing stuff. There is no order to the pics, No rhyme or reason why I chose these. I just did. I’m sure I forgot someone, probably a few people. This was completely unintentional and for this, I apologize. Again thank you for sharing them with us.

Enjoy!
